After her father fell ill, fifteen-year-old Ida Lewis took over the grueling responsibilities of the Lime Rock lighthouse, proving herself an expert keeper and a fearless navigator. Over the following decades, she became a national hero by performing numerous daring sea rescues, maintaining her post and her dedication to saving lives until her death in 1911.
