Jamie Davis, a sixth-grader who is nearly deaf, worries his disability will keep him from making the Madison basketball team. Despite his fears and the challenge of lip-reading his coach’s instructions, Jamie makes the cut. In the championship game against Morristown, Jamie doesn’t score a single point, but his brilliant defensive play stops the opponent’s star player and secures the win. The school paper eventually honors him as the “winning edge” for his team.
